Residents across Owensboro once again have the opportunity to dispose of bulky household items for free as the City’s annual neighborhood cleanup program has returned for 2026.

The program, organized through the Owensboro Neighborhood Alliance Program in partnership with the Owensboro Sanitation Department, allows residents to place large trash items at the curb for pickup on designated cleanup days in their neighborhood.

City crews recently kicked off the season with the Hillcrest Neighborhood Alliance cleanup, collecting nearly 8 tons of garbage during the first event of the year, according to a post on the Owensboro Neighborhood Alliance Facebook page.

The cleanups are designed to help residents get rid of bulky household items that typically cannot be placed in regular garbage carts.

Residents can place approved items at the curb on the Friday night before their scheduled cleanup, and City crews will collect them the following morning. Crews operate from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on cleanup days and cannot return if items are not placed out on time.

Items that crews can collect include junk furniture, appliances, tires, and small trash items that are bagged or boxed.

However, crews cannot collect construction debris or materials, yard waste, dirt, paint, or any type of liquid.

Officials urged that residents do not need to call CityAction to schedule a pickup. Instead, they simply need to place eligible items at the curb the night before their neighborhood’s scheduled cleanup.

The remaining 2026 neighborhood cleanup schedule is as follows:

  • Southeast Alliance — March 14
  • Midtown East Alliance — March 21
  • Old Owensboro Alliance — March 28
  • Wesleyan Shawnee Alliance — April 11
  • Northwest Alliance — April 18
  • Apollo Area Alliance — April 25
  • Dogwood Azalea Alliance — May 2
  • Dugan Best Alliance — May 16
  • Shifley-York Alliance — June 6
  • Seven Hills Alliance — June 13
  • Audubon-Bon Harbor Alliance — June 20

Residents who are unsure which neighborhood alliance they live in can use the City’s online information map to look up their address.
