Right to Life of Owensboro is hosting its annual Walk for Life 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

The walk will be the 40th held in Owensboro, and the purpose is to bring awareness to Right to Life’s mission.

“Our mission is to educate on the sanctity of life from conception until natural death,” said Right to Life of Owensboro Executive Director Stacey Davis. “Our pro-life organization brings awareness to both abortion and euthanasia topics and the misleading information in the media. We hope to increase the pro-life awareness and increase our membership locally.”

Typically 250 people attend the walk, and Davis said the organization loves to see large youth groups and football teams who walk as a group. The largest group to walk in the event will receive a pizza party.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. the day of the event and all walkers must sign a waiver form. There will also be refreshments available and Right to Life will be selling t-shirts prior to the walk.

Local candidates running for office typically participate, and Davis said they often speak at the event.

Davis said the organization has seen more support this past year due to the abortion laws passed in other states.

“We are so grateful to have great political leadership representing Kentucky and fighting to ban abortion completely,” she said. “Our walk is a small part of a much larger picture, but a great way for families to help support our local organization. The Right to Life needs the support from our community to help win this fight for life.”

Information about the walk can be found at Right to Life in Owensboro’s Facebook page. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church is located at 4029 Frederica Street.
