David William Fischer, 71, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026.
David had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a friend regardless of the situation or circumstance. His empathy and genuine care for others were among his greatest qualities. His career perfectly matched his personality; he worked as a tow truck driver for more than 40 years, helping thousands of people in their times of need. He truly lived through his work and passed on doing what he loved.
David was a loving family man who cared deeply for those closest to him and would sacrifice anything to ensure his family was cared for. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play softball and hockey. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and never hesitated to tell them how much they meant to him.
Everyone who knew David well knew his passion for taking care of his cats. He cared for countless strays over the years and helped so many animals that didn’t have anyone else to care for them.
Many of his neighbors would see him driving his moped around town on warm days. He found a lot of joy in life’s simple pleasures.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fischer; his children, Jennifer Bowlds (Mike Bowlds) and Jason Fischer (Ursula Norris); his grandchildren, Madeline Bowlds, Molly Bowlds, Julia Bowlds, Rachel Oakley, and Maggie Weaver; his sisters, Kathy Clark (Bob Clark) and Karen Fischer; his brothers, Tommy Fischer and Jimmy Fischer (Kelly Fischer); his sister-in law Sondra Fischer and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Fischer, and his brother, Joey Fischer.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 16 at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, 900 Old Hartford Rd., Owensboro, KY 42303, on Sunday, March 15th , from 1:00 PM until 5:30 PM with prayers at 5:30 PM and continuing again from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
