OPD: 17-year-old charged with murder in Orchard Street shooting

A 17-year-old juvenile has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting on Friday night on Orchard Street that left one teen dead and another man injured, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to OPD, the juvenile was charged on March 17 in the death of 17-year-old Jamarious Butler. The suspect has been lodged at the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to OPD, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Orchard Street at approximately 9:23 p.m. on March 13 in reference to a two‑victim shooting. Butler was pronounced dead that night, but his identity was not released until Monday. The adult victim was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in serious condition.

In a release on March 17, OPD officials said that detectives had identified persons of interest and were actively conducting interviews, locating additional witnesses, and analyzing evidence.
