Melissa Edmonds has been named the 2026 President of the Home Builders Association of Owensboro, becoming the first woman to lead the organization in its nearly 70-year history.
Founded in 1956, the association has traditionally been led by professionals within the home building industry. Edmonds also marks another first as the organization’s first associate member to serve as president, representing the supplier and service side of the industry.
Edmonds and her husband, Jared, have owned and operated Budget Blinds of Owensboro since 2017. The business has grown into an established local company known for its customer service and community involvement.
Her career has centered on serving customers and building relationships, which she said aligns with her involvement in the association and its mission to support builders, contractors, and homeowners.
“This is truly an honor,” Edmonds said. “I’m incredibly proud to represent an organization that plays such an important role in our community. Being the first female and first associate member to serve as president means a lot—not just to me, but hopefully to others who see that there’s a place for everyone in this industry.”
Adam Hicks, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Owensboro, said Edmonds’ appointment reflects both a milestone and the evolving nature of the industry.
“Melissa stepping into this role is a big moment for our association,” Hicks said. “Not just because she’s the first female president in 70 years, but because she represents how our industry is evolving. Our associate members play a huge role in what we do every day, and Melissa brings a level of energy, professionalism, and perspective that’s going to make us better as a whole.”
As president, Edmonds said she plans to strengthen connections between builders and associate members while promoting growth, collaboration, and opportunity across the local housing industry.
The Home Builders Association of Owensboro said it will continue supporting the building industry, advocating for housing initiatives, and fostering professional relationships that benefit the region.
