State officials will host a webinar on Friday to help eligible applicants access nearly $3.5 million in funding to install and operate electric vehicle charging stations across Kentucky.
Team Kentucky announced the virtual session will take place from 2-3 p.m. Eastern on March 27 and will provide guidance on eligibility requirements, project criteria, and application materials for the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Rebate Program. Register for the webinar here.
The program is open to a range of applicants, including multi-family property owners, businesses, government entities, and airports.
Funding for the initiative comes from Kentucky’s share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, part of a broader settlement secured after litigation against the automaker for emissions violations. State leaders have previously directed portions of those funds toward replacing aging school and transit buses, as well as supporting electric vehicle infrastructure.
The application period for the rebate program opens April 13. Approved applicants may be reimbursed for up to 50% of eligible project costs, with funding distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligible expenses include the purchase, installation, operation, and maintenance of new EV charging equipment for both Level 2 and Level 3 projects.
Level 2 charging stations may be installed at multi-family housing developments, public locations such as parks and government facilities, and workplace settings. Reimbursement for these projects is capped at $25,000 per application.
Level 3 funding is reserved for public commercial and general aviation airports in Kentucky and does not have a reimbursement cap. Airport authorities are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must commit to operating and maintaining the charging equipment in Kentucky for at least three years. All installations must be completed and reimbursement documentation submitted to the Office of Energy Policy by Aug. 1, 2027.
Officials said the webinar is intended to help potential applicants better understand the process and improve their chances of securing funding.
More information, including registration for the webinar and access to the application manual, is available through the Office of Energy Policy. Individuals with questions can contact [email protected].
