Jessica Morris has been named principal at Tamarack Elementary School, with the announcement made Friday afternoon ahead of a reception welcoming her into the role. She will officially begin her new position on July 1.

Morris began her career in education in 2008 with Daviess County Public Schools as an eighth-grade science teacher at Burns Middle School. She later spent eight years teaching seventh-grade science, where she emphasized hands-on learning aligned with engineering standards and helped lead professional learning community meetings.

For the past 10 years, Morris has served as assistant principal at Tamarack Elementary, overseeing teaching and learning, evaluating instructional processes, and helping maintain a positive school climate. Her responsibilities have also included implementing curriculum, supervising special education programs, organizing school activities, and supporting student behavior initiatives through the Positive Behavior Intervention System.

Morris holds two master’s degrees, one from Georgetown College in school improvement with a focus on gifted and talented education, and another from Oakland City University in building-level administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in middle grade education, with an emphasis in math and science, from Western Kentucky University.

“I am truly honored to be standing here today as the new principal of Tamarack Elementary,” Morris said. “Tamarack is a very special place, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding school community. I am excited to work alongside this amazing staff, partner with families, and support our students as they learn, grow, and achieve great things.”

Morris elaborated on her goals for the position.

“We want to continue holding high expectations for the future of Tamarack Elementary. We have some great systems and traditions in place to help every student reach their full potential,” Morris said. “With the talent, dedication, and passion that exists in this building, I am confident that Tamarack’s success will not only continue but grow even stronger.”

Daviess County Public Schools officials said Morris was selected following a thorough process that included input from Tamarack stakeholders.

“Daviess County Public Schools has established a collaborative, thoughtful, and rigorous process for selecting school principals,” Dr. April Devine said. “We were fortunate to have an exceptional pool of candidates for Tamarack Elementary.

“Through surveys and feedback sessions, Tamarack stakeholders expressed a desire for a student-centered leader who acts with integrity, communicates effectively, and is committed to maintaining the school’s strong and positive culture.”

Devine further elaborated on their excitement to introduce Morris as the next principal.

“We are thrilled to introduce Jessica Morris as the next principal of Tamarack Elementary,” Devine said. “Ms. Morris is a dedicated advocate for students and a passionate champion of equity and excellence.”

She added that her experience played a pivotal role in selecting her for the position.

“She brings a wealth of experience, a deep commitment to the school community, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student,” she said. “We are confident she will lead Tamarack with vision, heart, and integrity.”
