GRABC’s Owensboro site is continuing to offer free tax preparation services over the final two weeks of tax season, with appointments available now and walk-in assistance plus extended hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 15.

GRABC (Green River Asset Building Coalition) provides no-cost tax preparation through IRS-certified volunteers, helping eligible taxpayers avoid preparation fees that often range from $200 to $500 per return. Services are available to low- to moderate-income individuals and families earning up to $72,000 annually, with no income limit for adults age 65 and older.

“Tax season is one of the most important financial moments of the year for many households,” said Executive Director Courtney McCarthy. “We want to make sure no one misses out on their refund or pays unnecessary fees simply because they don’t have access to trusted income tax preparation assistance.”

Officials say many taxpayers qualify for credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which can significantly increase refunds — sometimes by hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Without access to free services, preparation fees can reduce the overall benefit.

GRABC officials said the program helps return millions of dollars to the local economy each year by ensuring eligible residents receive available credits and refunds that support essentials such as housing, food, transportation, and savings.

While walk-ins will be accepted as capacity allows on April 15, appointments are strongly encouraged due to high demand in the final days of tax season.

The Owensboro site is located at 1741 Scherm Drive, Suite B.

Regular hours are for the Owensboro site are:

  • Monday and Thursday: 2-6 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Friday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Saturday (walk-in): 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Appointments can be scheduled online at grabc.org or by calling 270-685-1603. Questions can also be directed to [email protected]. Officials noted that high call volume may result in delayed responses.

Residents are encouraged to bring a valid photo ID, Social Security cards for all household members, all income documents (such as W-2s and 1099s), a 1095-A form if applicable, bank account information for direct deposit, and a copy of last year’s tax return if available. Missing documents may delay or prevent same-day service.
