Virgil Howard Bowlds, 90, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born September 4, 1935 in Daviess County to the late Leo V. Bowlds and Anna Belle Howard Bowlds. Virgil retired from Owensboro Supply after 30+ years. After retirement, he worked for Felty Crop Services. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Holiness Church. Virgil was an adventurous traveler and had visited all 50 states and Canada. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Louisville Cardinals Basketball. Virgil loved fishing, hunting and camping and was the best husband, dad, brother, and Papaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Cecil Bowlds, Rodney Bowlds, and Shirley Vanover.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie Bowlds; children, Belinda Weiss (Steven), Tim Bowlds (Allison), Cindy Gunter (Tony), and Yates Lee Roberts (Kim); 11 grandchildren, April Massey (Jay), Mandy Williams, Timmy Bowlds, Dustin Roberts (Jessica), David Embry, Sarah Offil (Stanley), Mitchell Roberts, Jacob Roberts, Chase Gunter, McKenzie Bolin (Patrick), and Marc Bowlds (Jean); 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Dickens (Ronnie), James Bowlds, and Billy J. Bowlds (Carolyn); several nieces and nephews; and his best pup buddy, Jasper.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Nickel Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
