Stepping into the box with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, it took McLean County’s Jayden Taylor one pitch to end the game – driving it over the left field fence for a grand slam and a 14-2 win over Bracken County.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, the Cougars took a 6-1 lead highlighted by Will Gatton’s two-run homer. McLean County added one run in the third and seven in the fifth, including Taylor’s game-ending homer.

Taylor finished 1-4 with four RBIs, Gatton went 2-3 with two RBIs, and Brooks Lynam and Nash Lee combined for three hits and five RBIs. Gatton threw a complete game on the mound, allowing one earned run over five innings, striking out 10.

The Cougars return to action on Monday when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins 14-2 at 5:30 p.m.
