Hitting third and fourth in the lineup on Sunday afternoon against Cumberland Park, Owensboro Catholic’s Mason Russelburg and Jake Murphy proved why their middle of the lineup is so potent. The duo both had a pair of doubles and combined for eight hits and eight RBIs to power the Aces past the Panthers 13-7.

It took the Aces just four batters into the game to take the lead when Murphy singled to drive in two runs. Jaxson White hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to push the lead to 3-0. Leading 8-2 entering the seventh, the Aces added five runs, highlighted by Drew Miles and Russelburg’s RBI doubles, and White’s RBI triple.

White finished 2-4 with two RBIs, and Miles and Mason Moser both had a pair of hits. Lane Hundley started on the mound, giving up one unearned run over four innings, while Gentry Atwell and White both pitched in relief.

The Aces return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Apollo for a pivotal 9th District game.
