Barbara Ann Booker Coomes, 84, of Whitesville, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026 at the Heartford House. Barbara was born in Daviess County on March 6, 1942 to the late Milburn Joseph and Mary E. “Betty” Bumm Booker. She was a teacher for 36 years, including 27 years with the Ohio County Public School System. Barbara was a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, serving on the picnic and funeral meal committees. She was a devoted educator who made a lifelong impact on many of her students as well as a longtime member of KEA.
She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, her greatest accomplishments in life were her sons and her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roger and brothers, Joe, Gene, and Leon.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Michael Coomes and Brett (Tara) Coomes; grandchildren, Emma Grace and Benjamin Coomes; siblings, Tony (Lois) Booker, Gerald (Marie) Booker and Marie (Mike) Bartlett; her honorary sister, Darleen Shope and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY with entombment following at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville.
