A Massac County, Illinois, grand jury has indicted an Owensboro man in connection with a decades-old homicide, according to the Massac County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Seventy-six-year-old George E. Bradfield, of Owensboro, has been charged with five counts of murder in the 1984 death of Lisa Ann Carnes, State’s Attorney Josh Stratemeyer said in a release.
Carnes, 26, was found March 30, 1984, in a field in rural Massac County. Her cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound, according to the release.
Bradfield has been arrested and is currently in custody in Owensboro, Stratemeyer said.
The Illinois State Police served as the lead investigative agency on the case, with assistance from the Massac County Sheriff’s Office, the Owensboro Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities noted that the Massac County Sheriff’s Office was the original responding agency.
The charges are allegations, and Bradfield is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, according to the release.
