Original story
Owensboro High School was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was reported as students were arriving on campus, and the situation remains active as of 9:05 a.m.
According to a message sent to OHS families at 8:40 a.m., the school’s front office received a phone call from an individual claiming there was a bomb inside the building.
Students who were already inside were immediately evacuated to Rash Stadium. Those arriving at the time were either allowed to leave with their parents or remain on site in a designated area with other students at Rash Stadium.
Officials said the school resource officer and the Owensboro Police Department responded and began coordinating a search of the building. An explosives-detecting K9 unit has been deployed, and OPD officers are working with the Owensboro Public Schools as well as the Owensboro Fire Department to sweep the premises.
OPD confirmed they are actively working with school officials following the reported threat.
According to the message sent to families, authorities have identified a phone number associated with the call and are attempting to trace it to determine who made the threat.
As of the latest update, the building remains on lockdown, with no one allowed to enter or exit until it is cleared by law enforcement. All students on site are reported to be safe and in a secure area.
Parents are asked not to come to the school while the investigation is ongoing. Officials said they will provide updates once the building has been cleared and normal operations can resume.
