Catherine Anderson Lyons, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born September 6, 1938 in Daviess County to the late Samuel H. Bristow and Verona Whittler Bristow. Catherine retired in 1999 from Owensboro-Daviess County Vocational School where she worked as senior accountant and then retired from Hager School as a family advocate in 2009. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Kay Lyons; and four sisters, Rose Hulsey, Mary Emery, Sara Casebier, and Doris Lambert.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry R. Lyons; son, Randall Keith Lyons (Lisa); four grandchildren, Jasmine Lyons, Stephen Quattrocchi (Rachel), Emily Buttrum (Josh), and Keith Lyons; four great-grandchildren, Kristen Lyons, Noah Spencer, Bryson and Rose Quattrocchi; and a brother, Owen H. Bristow.
Catherine found her greatest joy in caring for and being surrounded by children, and she especially loved watching them learn and grow. She had a nurturing heart and took pride in encouraging young minds, always offering patience, kindness, support and most importantly, love. She had a special talent for bargain hunting, especially when it came to finding clothing deals. She took great pride in discovering treasured pieces at just the right price. She also enjoyed collecting glassware and loved the thrill of the “hunt” for that one special piece to add to her collection. Above all else, her family meant everything to her. She made sure no one ever went without, giving generously of herself and always putting the needs of others before her own. Catherine was the true definition of a mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Weir, Kentucky. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
