Owensboro Community & Technical College will host a series of free information sessions this summer for individuals interested in its TechX workforce training program, which provides hands-on instruction in advanced manufacturing and industrial technology skills.
The sessions are scheduled for 4 p.m. on June 9, July 8, and July 21 in the lobby of OCTC’s Industry Innovation Center on the college’s main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road. Attendees will also have an opportunity to tour the adjacent TechX lab and view the equipment used in the program.
TechX is a two-semester training program designed to prepare students for careers in skilled trades and industrial fields. Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 5:30-9:30 p.m., with a schedule aimed at accommodating working adults and others with daytime commitments.
The program includes hands-on training in machining, robotics, forklift operation, rigging and lifting, and welding processes, including Stick, TIG, and MIG welding. According to OCTC, the program does not include homework and focuses on practical workforce skills.
“TechX gives students the opportunity to build real skills in a hands-on environment while preparing for careers in today’s workforce,” said Alicyn Rodgers, OCTC workforce solutions program coordinator and career navigator. “Whether someone is just starting out, changing careers, or looking to gain new technical skills, this program is designed to meet students where they are.”
During the information sessions, prospective students can meet instructors, learn about enrollment requirements, and explore funding options, including financial aid and the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship.
While TechX is a certificate-based program, OCTC said credits earned may be applied toward an associate degree for students who choose to continue their education.
The sessions are free and open to the public, and no RSVP is required.
