More than 660 homes and businesses in rural McLean County now have access to high-speed internet service through an expansion of Spectrum’s fiber broadband network.
Spectrum announced the expansion this week, bringing internet, mobile, television, and voice services to previously unserved or underserved areas of the county, including locations near Island and Sacramento.
The project is part of the company’s broader rural broadband initiative, which Spectrum says is backed by more than $7 billion in private investment nationwide. The effort is expected to add more than 100,000 miles of fiber infrastructure and extend service to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country.
Heather Day, area vice president for Spectrum’s Kentucky Management Area, said the expansion is helping connect rural communities with faster internet service.
“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to rural communities in Kentucky and across America,” Day said. “Our investment is providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.”
State Sen. Gary Boswell said the project will benefit residents and businesses throughout the region.
“I’m pleased that more homes and businesses in Kentucky’s 8th Senate District now have access to fast, dependable internet thanks to Spectrum’s RDOF buildout,” Boswell said. “This connects many of our rural neighbors, including farmers.”
Spectrum said residential and business customers can receive internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, with plans starting at 500 megabits per second. The company said its internet service does not require contracts and includes no modem fees or data caps.

Spectrum is a brand of Charter Communications and provides broadband, mobile, television, and voice services in 41 states, serving nearly 59 million homes and businesses nationwide, according to the company.
