The FedEx Ship Center at 2200 Ragu Drive in Owensboro will permanently close Aug. 29 as part of the company’s ongoing Network 2.0 transformation, according to a statement provided to the Owensboro Times.
FedEx confirmed the closure Tuesday after customers received emails notifying them the facility would permanently close.
“We are not able to provide final details on impacted employees as they are working through various options available to them,” FedEx spokesperson David Westrick said.
In a statement, the company said:
“As part of our previously announced network transformation strategy, the FedEx facility on Ragu Drive in Owensboro will close on Aug. 29. Team members at the facility were notified several months in advance, and certain employees will be offered other roles within the company. For customers who have historically used this location for package drop-off, other locations offering those services can be found at fedex.com. These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees — through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance, as applicable — while transforming our network and continuing to provide an outstanding experience for our customers.”
A search of FedEx’s website shows several other locations in the Owensboro area where customers can access certain FedEx services, including an authorized FedEx ShipCenter at Package Plus, 117 E. 18th St., FedEx service counters inside Walgreens stores on Frederica Street and West Parrish Avenue, FedEx service at Office Depot on Frederica Street, and multiple FedEx drop boxes throughout the city.
According to information provided by the company, Network 2.0 is a multiyear initiative announced in 2022 that combines FedEx’s pickup and delivery networks in the United States and Canada to streamline operations, reduce handoffs, improve package visibility, and simplify customer service. As part of the effort, FedEx is consolidating some facilities while reorganizing staffing at others. FedEx said it has optimized about 490 stations in the U.S. and Canada and expects approximately 65% of eligible average daily package volume to move through Network 2.0 stations by the end of this calendar year.
