It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Homer Lee Geary Sr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Homer was born on April 18, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Kenneth Geary and Chloris Payton Geary. He departed this life peacefully on July 19, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family.
Homer was a man of great character and warmth, known for his outgoing personality and his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. He never met a stranger, and his kindness left an unforgettable mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Homer’s zest for life was evident in his numerous hobbies and interests, from dancing and playing cards to pitching washers and riding horses, and in the cherished moments he shared with his family. His playful spirit often shone through as he enjoyed picking at those he loved.
He was a graduate of Caneyville High School, where he forged friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Homer dedicated much of his life to hard work as a farmer, logger, and heavy equipment operator, eventually retiring from the City of Hartford Maintenance Garage. His work ethic was second to none, yet he always found the time to share love and laughter with his family.
On January 13, 1968, Homer married the love of his life, Brenda Joyce Decker Geary. Together, they built a life filled with love over 58 wonderful years, raising four children: Homer Lee Geary Jr. (Geronia) of Cromwell, David Russell Geary (Lisa) of Falls of Rough, Stephen Wayne Geary (Angela) of Leitchfield, and Diana Jo Garner (Richard) of Hartford. Homer was also a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy in his life.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Geary and Chloris E. Payton Geary, his brother, Doyle Gene Geary, and 2 grandchildren Kenneth Lee Geary & one unnamed. His legacy of love and laughter lives on in the hearts of his surviving family members, including his beloved wife, Brenda, and their extensive family.
Visitation will be held at Bevil Brothers Funeral Home, located at 226 Louisville Road, Beaver Dam, KY 42320 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026 and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with funeral service to follow. Burial will take place at McGrady Creek Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
As we remember Homer, we hold close to our hearts his favorite saying: “I’m so tired. I’m so sore. I won’t do it for a dime anymore. Fifteen cents, that’s my price. Give me a quarter, and I’ll do it twice.” His words remind us of his wit, humor, and the endless love he shared with those around him.
