No one was injured in a structure fire that destroyed a home in east Daviess County Thursday evening.

Officials with the Thruston-Philpot Fire Department said the fire, which took place in the 4000 block of Little Bluestream Drive, in the Brookfield community started from a grill fire in the backyard before spreading to the home.

Thruston-Philpot Fire Chief Bob Newman said the homeowner was grilling brats and went inside to shower, and when he returned the back of the house was on fire.

Newman described the residence as a total loss.

One homeowner was not home at the time. Three dogs were also evacuated from the residence. The American Red Cross has been contacted to help the homeowners.

According to Thruston Fire Department Assistant Chief Tommy Johnson, a residence next door was also affected by the fire. Vinyl siding also burned off the neighboring structure.

Johnson said it took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.

Several fire departments responded to the scene, including Masonville and East Daviess County and Daviess County. AMR Ambulance was also on the scene when the fire took place.
