Update: Officials say there was no structural damage to the bridge, which has reopened to traffic.
The Panther Creek Bridge on KY 81 has been hit once again, though officials say it was from a minor accident and is expected to reopen once the scene is cleared.
“A passenger truck pulling a trailer glanced off the concrete end of the bridge. It appears once we get the roadway clear, we can reopen for traffic. It’s nothing like the two previous times when the overhead supports were struck from something being too tall,” said Major Barry Smith, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy.
Smith said he expects traffic to be closed for at least an hour as they clear the scene. Part of the cleanup involves a diesel spill from either the truck or the trailer.
According to Smith, a second minor accident occurred between two cars trying to navigate around the first incident. One of those cars left the scene, and DCSO is trying to locate the driver.
Both accidents are still under investigation.
