Dr. Kishor Vora began practicing cardiology in Owensboro in 1992, and in 2001 he opened his own medical office named Owensboro Medical Practice.

Since that first year, Vora has been on a mission to create a place where compassionate care meets evidence-based treatment. The medical office has since expanded to include primary care, an urgent care facility, a sleep center, aesthetics and wellness, neurology, a catheterization lab, and now a wound care center.

On Aug. 19, Vora and his team opened the VORA Wound Healing Center.

These centers provide treatment for chronic wounds, which are often connected with vascular disease and diabetes. If a wound does not completely heal on its own, it’s important to seek medical care.

Vora and nurse practitioner Brandy Abell will be heading up the VORA Wound Healing Center. Together, they provide a unique combination of patient-centered care and cardiovascular expertise.

Vora is a board certified cardiovascular physician with extensive experience in vascular intervention.

“Wounds could be related to vascular disease because the arterial disease blocks the blood flow, and in turn, oxygen and nutrients, from healing the wound,” he said. “Similarly, venous disease in the form of leaky or impaired valves or blockage prevents proper drainage of toxins released by wounds. If the disease is intervened, we can address the root cause and restore blood flow. Then, the wound can be healed much faster.”

Vascular intervention is one of the treatments available at the medical office’s catheterization lab, which opened last year.

“Since everything is in one area, medical care truly becomes comprehensive, and the treatment can happen very fast,” Abell said. “With our cath lab right here in the building, we can get patients the interventions they need quickly and easily.”

Throughout his career as a cardiologist, Vora has trained over 200 physicians in vascular intervention.

In lieu of a ribbon cutting, Owensboro Medical Practice will be hosting a virtual ceremony to celebrate the new VORA Wound Healing Center.
