Football Gameday Guide: Week 4

As teams around the state move into week four of the 2020 football season, only three area teams have games this week as Apollo is on its bye.

Owensboro took down Muhlenberg County Thursday while Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic have games Friday. DC hosts McCracken County while the Aces host McLean County in a battle of unbeatens.

McCracken County (3-0) @ Daviess County (2-1), Friday, 7 p.m.

The Daviess County Panthers are 2-1 this season with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Owensboro Red Devils but they welcome another tough opponent Friday as they take on undefeated McCracken County at DCHS.

The Mustangs have rolled through foes this season as they’ve taken down Mayfield, Marshall County and Apollo to start the season.

Pryor Lamb is in his first year leading the Mustang offense and he hasn’t missed a beat as he’s 32-of-54 for 465 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Hunter Bradley missed the end of last season with a injury but he’s back in full force in 2020 as he’s racked up 388 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season.

McCracken has three receivers that have hit the century mark as Jeremiah Hughes (11 yards, 3 touchdowns), Bradley (118 yards, touchdown) and Zander Mayes (111 yards, touchdown) have all turned in a solid first three games.

The Mustangs have also forced turnovers this as they’ve grabbed five fumble recoveries and have five interceptions on defense.

Daviess County’s Joe Humphreys has been on fire since making his debut in week two against Owensboro as he’s thrown for 561 yards and has nine touchdowns in two games. Bryson Parm has also been getting in done in the rushing attack as he has 402 yards and four touchdowns while Humphreys has also turned in 183 yards and two scores on the ground.

Decker Renfrow is a favorite target of Humphreys with his 224 yards and four touchdowns but Max Dees (150 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Carter Hamilton (108 yards, 3 touchdowns) have also had solid seasons.

Gunnar Evans (47 tackles) and Parker Crews (45 tackles) have been dominant forces on the Panther defense this season.

McLean County (3-0) @ Owensboro Catholic (3-0), Friday, 7 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic and McLean County make up the only local game between undefeated teams Friday as the Aces will look to get revenge on the Cougars after their early playoff exit a year ago.

Catholic had a slow start in the opener against Mt. Vernon (Ind.) but have found their footing in recent weeks after dominant victories over Hopkins County Central and Todd County Central.

The Cougars have beaten Muhlenberg County (32-12), Butler County (42-18) and Hopkins County Central (58-34) this season.

McLean has used its rushing attack to its benefit this season as the Cougars have five players with at least 100 yards for a total of 1,057 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns this season.

Andrew Munster lead the Cougar running backs with 403 yards and three touchdowns while Zach Clayton has 202 yards and a score on the ground.

Braeden Peercy (180 yards, 2 touchdowns), Connor Baldwin (105 yards, touchdown) and Matthew Miller (101 yards, 5 touchdowns) have all helped the Cougars on the ground this season.

Brady Dame has 144 of McLean’s 186 receiving yards this season and four of its six touchdowns through the air.

The Aces have been scoring points on the ground and in the passing game this season as its all lead by quarterback Lincoln Clancy.

Clancy is 25-of-38 for 513 yards and seven touchdowns this season and has also ran for 166 yards and a score.

Hunter Monroe is the Aces’ leading rusher with 220 yards and two scores while Braden Mundy is the jack of all trades for Catholic so far.

Mundy has more than 260 total yards and eight touchdowns this season.

Chris Boarman has hurt teams on offense (99 yards, 3 touchdowns) and defense (28 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks) for the Aces this season.
