The Daviess County Lady Panthers are getting ready for a KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament match for the first time in program history after they took down Grayson County in last week’s 3rd Region Tournament.
DC’s win over the Lady Cougars sets up a first round battle with perennial power Assumption in Louisville at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Rockets have won 22 state titles, including the last three as they’re going for a four-peat this season. Only six schools have won state volleyball titles and with its 22, Assumption has more championships than all other schools combined.
Assumption is 15-2 this season with its only losses coming against Mercy and Mount Notre Dame (Ohio). In their 15 wins, the Lady Rockets have 11 sweeps.
Sydney Helmers leads the way with 250 kills this season while Caroline Cermack has 126 kills as she also leads the team with 18 aces.
Alyssa Eaton has 289 assists while Whitney Woodrow (191) and Parker Nall (128) have also helped moved the Rocket offense along. Jenny Wessling leads the team with 151 digs as Madilyn O’Toole is also over the century mark with 113.
The Daviess County Lady Panthers come into Monday on a hot streak of their own as they’ve won six-straight matches with five of them coming in a sweep. DC dominated the field in the 3rd Region Tournament as they swept all three opponents and only allowed 20 or more points four times during the week.
DC only has three losses on the year with two of them coming against Apollo and the other coming against Breckinridge County, a team they got their revenge on last week in Leitchfield.
The Lady Panthers have four players with at least 100 kills as Elizabeth Moore (268), Josie Newcom (157), Adylan Ayer (123) and Jasmine Beasley (102) have hurt opposing teams at will this season. Ayer (35) and Beasley (30) are also leading the team in blocks.
Ryann Keller has dished out 402 assists this season as Lexi Owen is second on the team with 215.
DC has four players over the century mark in digs as they’re led by Kloee Phelps (230) and Kendall Goetz (209). Moore (183) and Newcom (125) have also done their part on the defensive end.
Daviess County and Assumption hit the court at 7 p.m. EST at AHS.
