Despite not finishing the regular season with a game on Friday night, the Owensboro Red Devils will go into the KHSAA Class 5A State playoffs will the top RPI, which means OHS has home-field advantage throughout the playoffs were it to advance to the state championship at Kroger Field in Lexington.
Owensboro is the only local school in the top 10 in RPI in its respective class as Owensboro Catholic (2A) and Apollo (6A) are just outside of the top 10.
In Class 2A, Lexington Christian takes the top spot in RPI as the Aces sit at No. 11 at .589. Hancock County, Catholic’s district foe, ends the regular season at No. 6 after the Hornets’ 5-1 finish this season.
In Class 6A, Louisville Trinity finished the year at 6-0 as the Shamrocks had an RPI of .640. Apollo finishes in the No. 11 spot as the Eagles had an RPI of 529 while Daviess County comes in at No. 22 with an RPI of .465.
The KHSAA State Playoffs start Nov. 19-21 but a team’s RPI doesn’t come into play until the third round as the first two rounds of the playoffs are against district opponents.
