Daviess County Fiscal Court announced Thursday they will receive an additional $1.17 million in CARES Act reimbursements to cover expenses they have already incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Assistant County Treasurer Jordan Johnson, the money allocated to Fiscal Court came from the state’s second round of COVID-19 relief funds that are now being dispersed to local governments.
Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said an Executive Order approving the funds was given the nod of approval by County Attorney Claud Porter ahead of Thursday’s Fiscal Court meeting.
“We had to really move quickly when we became aware we could get up to $1.17 million. We didn’t have time to hold a special meeting and go through it,” Mattingly said.
Fiscal Court has played numerous roles in financially assisting the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Tens of thousands of face masks were obtained and made available to small businesses, and County Commissioners approved a resolution to postpone a second round of tax increases for one full year.
Fiscal Court also provided financial relief to local restaurants and bars and have approved a motion to waive alcohol license fees for a number of those establishments.
