Daviess County’s first regional REAL ID office will soon be open to the public. With interior and exterior renovations now complete, officials say residents should be able to receive their REAL IDs by mid-January.

The months-long renovation project for the regional REAL ID center — located at the former Daviess County Operations Center on KY 81 — was finished five days ahead of schedule, according to Judge-Executive Al Mattingly.

A $276,900 construction bid placed by Hartz Contracting involved extending the existing parking lot to create more parking spots and restructuring the inside of the building to include several kiosks and office spaces for the state’s Kentucky Transportation Cabinet employees that will be running the REAL ID center.

During last Thursday’s Fiscal Court meeting, Mattingly described the newly-renovated space as “a real nice facility” and that he was anxious for the citizens of Daviess County to take advantage of it.

“We’ve done all the work necessary and have turned [a portion] of the building over to the state for their utilization,” he said.

The REAL ID center will be located to the right of the entryway upon entering the building. That area — which makes up roughly 2,300 square feet of space — was previously home to the Daviess County Parks & Recreation department, which has since been relocated to the former RiverPark Eyecare building at 221 Allen St.

Mattingly said KYTC had already given the new Daviess County Regional REAL ID Center the nod of approval.

“We think that this location — and the state agreed with us — is absolutely perfect for our REAL ID office,” he said. “There’s a lot of parking, easy in-and-out access, and it’s secure. Once it opens, we invite you all to come out, renew your driver’s license and get a REAL ID.”
