Daviess County 6, Apollo 5

The Daviess County Lady Panthers needed two runs in the bottom of the seventh beat county rival Apollo Thursday at DCHS.

The Lady Panthers scored two in the first to take the lead but the E-gals didn’t go away in the 6-5 final.

DC led 3-0 heading to the top of the fifth when Apollo added two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead heading into the final frame.

Katie Mewes had the game-winning hit for the Lady Panthers when she singled to left to score Kaylyn Payne and Makayla Rowan.

Greysee Whiteker threw the final 1.1 IP to get the win as she struck out two E-gals.

Millie Roberts led DC as she went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs, including a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Lady Panthers a quick lead.

Abby Newman scored twice in the victory.

For the E-gals, nine players registered hits as Sydney Saalwaechter added three RBIs on a home run in the top of the sixth and also scored twice. Morgan Frizzell had the other two RBIs for Apollo.

Daviess County is off until Tuesday when it heads to Greenwood while Apollo plays Monday at South Spencer.

Owensboro Catholic 13, Owensboro 3 (6 innings)

The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces grabbed their third 9th District win of the week and their second over Owensboro as they took down the Lady Devils 13-3 in six innings Thursday at OCHS.

Hadley Phelps picked up the win after she threw the first three innings and struck out three while allowing just two hits. Alexis Hatchett threw the final three frames and struck out there while allowing three earned runs on five hits.

Six Lady Aces had multiple hits in the game. Phelps (4-5, 3 RBIs, R, 2B), Camille Conkright (2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 R, 2B, 3B), Bailey Hamilton (3-3, 2 RBIs, 2 R, 2 2B), Lilli Grant (2-2, 2 RBIs, 2 R, HR, 2B) and Abbie Dukate (2-2, R, 2B) all had big days at the plate. R Jones added three runs in the victory.

S Moorman (2-2, R) and Kaylyn Sowders (2-2, R) led the Lady Devils while Kirsten Tindler added two RBIs in the loss.

Catholic plays this weekend in the All “A” Classic State Tournament as they have pool play Saturday where they’ll take on Lyon County, Nicholas County and Holy Cross.

Owensboro plays Saturday on the road against Evansville Bosse and Wood Memorial.
