The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces are 1-1 after the first night of pool play in the All “A” Classic State Championship after rain delayed the event to the late afternoon.
Catholic fell to Lyon County in their first pool play game 5-0 but bounced back in the nightcap as they took down Nicholas County 14-3.
Against the Lady Lyons, Catholic could only muster one hit in the game as Hadley Phelps had the lone Lady Ace hit.
Lyon County scored one run in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple from K Conger to take a 1-0 lead after three.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of fourth and the time limit nearing its end, C Collins, a Rutgers signee, took the pitch up and over the wall for a grand slam to give the Lady Lyons the 5-0 lead and the eventually victory.
Catholic bounced back in the nightcap when they beat the 10th Region champion 14-3-.
Alexis Hatchett pitched up the win in the second game as Gracie Jennings (2-3, 4 RBIs) and Lilli Grant (2-2, RBI, R) each grabbed two hits for the Lady Aces. Abbi Dukate had a double, two RBIs and two runs while Hadley Phelps, Bailey Hamilton and Brooke Hamilton each scored twice.
The Lady Aces finish pool play at 9:30 a.m. when they take on Holy Cross. The advance to the bracket portion of the All “A” Classic State Tournament.
