After she finished in the top four in all of her events at this year’s Region 2 Meet, Owensboro’s Abby Warren is looking forward to her senior season as a Lady Devil where she has even higher expectations for her last season.

It’s Warren’s success this season and her momentum into next year that make her the Owensboro Times Female Co-Swimmer of the Year with her teammate Addison Callis.

“I think it is amazing that they voted me swimmer of the year,” she said of the local coaches. “It really makes me happy.”

Like every other athlete this season, Warren’s season wasn’t typical by any means btu she recognized that it was through the rough times, she appreciated the good things that much more.

“What stands out the most about this season is finding the little positives,” she said. “There were a whole lot of negatives so you really had to appreciate the little bits of good stuff.”

A few of the good things for Warren were during the Region 2 meet where she competed in the 200-yard medley relay (3rd), 50-yard freestyle (4th), 200-yard freestyle relay (3rd) and the 100-yard breaststroke (3rd), as she delivered solid finishes in all four events.

Like her teammate, Warren has had several coaches but her mother is one that has guided her the most.

“My mom is probably the biggest influence on where I am at now,” she said. “But obviously I have to thank all of my past coaches for working with me. And all of the people who have doubted me just push me harder.”

Warren is already looking forward to her senior year as she hopes it’s a little more routine but she’s already got her sights set on big things.

“I am looking forward to a little bit more normalcy next year and to being a team captain and becoming even closer to my team and having a whole lot of fun,” she said were her goals next season.

To achieve her goals, Warren is already prepared to spend her summer in the pool but she noted it’s also about what she does away from the pool as well.

“I am going to continue to practice hard like I do and do the extra stuff outside of just practicing,” she said. “I am also going to try and ‘stay loose’ the way I was this year—not getting upset when things don’t go exactly the way I plan—trying to stay open-minded.”

When she hits the pool in her first meet as a senior next spring, Warren will be doing it as a captain and a senior for the Owensboro girl’s swimming program.

She said she’s learned a lot during her time at OHS and representing her school is one of the things she values the most going into her final season.

“Being a Lady Devil to me means being the best I can be,” she said. “Pushing myself to a higher standard and showing off that Red Devil name and pride.”
