After the new playground equipment was unveiled at Dugan Best Park Thursday afternoon, children wasted no time in making the most of the new structures in their neighborhood.
The playground was constructed by Miracle of KY & TN and cost $99,635. Prior to the ribbon cutting, Mayor Tom Watson said he wanted to make the people of the Northwest Neighborhood know they were important to the community.
“This area had maybe not been forgotten, but not been given enough attention for a while and we’ve now directed our CBDG money for the northwestern area, so we’re hoping we can bring more ideas and more things to this part of the community,” Watson said.
Watson said this is the third renovation the park has had since it opened, and the first time since 2001 when the current equipment was installed.
“We had this replacement plan at City Hall and sometimes it takes longer to replace things than others,” he said. “To have an opportunity to give back to this park and what these folks have been doing to keep things going in their neighborhood alliance, it’s really important.”
During Watson’s remarks, children were scattered across the playground using the new equipment. Watson said seeing kids on the different playgrounds will be a great sight this summer.
