With the holiday season quickly approaching, local businesses are showcasing their products and services with open houses this weekend and next. Our Hometown Holiday Open House is a guide for shoppers to know when to visit their favorite local stores, or check out a new one. We’ve divided the guide into four sections: Downtown, Eastside, Westside and Midtown.

Downtown business owners Anne Higgins (Willow and Pine Market) and Debi Ford (Simply Chic Home Accents) both said holding open houses help get everyone excited for the holiday season. They said it gives people a chance to shop early, and the in-person experience is beneficial both for customers and retailers.
“I think that shopping local is going to be important this year, not only for retailers, but for consumers, as well,” Higgins said. “We are all aware of the current supply chain issues and shortages. I don’t think that anyone can feel 100% confident about shopping online right now and receiving orders in a timely manner. The only way to know that you’ll have the gift you want on Christmas morning is to purchase it in person.”
Ford added: “Over the last 2 years our community has been impacted by the pandemic. … When you add the shipping issues, not receiving merchandise to the mix, and increased costs of merchandise and freight, it gets pretty overwhelming. This year, wherever you are shopping, if you see it and like it, you better buy it. Holiday decor and gifts are in big demand right now and our inventories aren’t what they normally are.”
Both business owners said local retailers will offer more personal service than can be found through online shopping, and they’ve been preparing for a big season by stocking up on inventory.
