The Daviess County Public Schools Police Department were swift to respond to a call for help from Bowling Green after the city was hit by the recent tornado.

Bowling Green law enforcement requested that DCPS Lead School Law Enforcement Officer Brad Youngman and the rest of the SLEO team help with traffic control and security operations.

Along with Youngman, officers Gary Mattingly, Paul Mattingly, Gary Klee and Tim Gray volunteered. Their leaves of absence were approved by both Superintendent Matt Robbins and Director of Student Services Charles Broughton.

Youngman said that with the adoption of the motto “Safety, Trust and Respect,” he feels the DCPS SLEOs strive to provide all three components to all people that they interact with during their procedures.

“Our team’s unique blend of decades of prior law enforcement experience, military experience, and Tim Gray’s knowledge of the Bowling Green area allowed our team to assimilate quickly and effectively as part of this response,” Youngman said.

This isn’t the first time that the school district has provided aid to the tornado victims. The school system also received a call from Mayfield Independent Schools to send buses if possible.

Robbins and Broughton, along with Transportation Director Grady Cooper, again responded quickly and loaned out five buses from the DCPS fleet.

“When we say the Daviess County Public Schools district puts ‘Kids First,’ we mean all kids,” Robbins said. “We are honored to assist our sister districts as they work toward resuming a sense of normalcy for their children, which is such an important part of the healing process.”
