Patrick Hayden announced he is running for Daviess County’s West Commissioner seat in the 2022 election. He hopes to focus on spending cuts and maintaining the current tax rate.

“If it has anything to do with raising taxes, it’s an automatic no for me. There’s just way too much money and not enough being done,” Hayden said.

Hayden said he was inspired to run when he saw and heard that many citizens throughout the county felt as though that they are not represented by the current commission. He said that is evidenced in many of the decisions that are made by the current Fiscal Court.

He primarily noted how property taxes get raised each year and never take get lowered.

Even further, he said that there has been “some questionable spending” from the commission and thinks decisions should be put under check.

With his experience in construction and as co-owner of Phantom Electric, Hayden said that he has had the opportunity to talk to a lot of people. He said he hopes to address on health care and wants to push the Panther Creek cleanup, but again stressed that if the chance arises he wants to decrease property taxes.

“I’m a big proponent of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable for a little while so you can do the things that need to be done,” Hayden said. “And I really think the government’s role should be less.”
