The upcoming comedy-driven NBC series “True Story” hosted by Ed Helms and Randall Park features one-of-a-kind true stories that will be reenacted by actors. In hoping to find everyday Americans who have hilarious stories, the show is currently on the search for a Kentucky native with a hilarious story to share.

Casting Director Nathan Baker spoke with Owensboro Times about the nationwide search for people from all over the country who represent the heart and soul of middle America.

“We have a lot of people from New York and L.A., but that doesn’t represent all of America,” Baker said. “We’re looking all over. [Ed and Randall] really want to find everyday people — not people trying to be actors. Anyone 18 years and older can apply.”

A press release shared by Baker explained that “the stories get heightened, dramatized re-enactments of cinematic proportions by a cast of top comedians and actors. Each hour-long episode will feature two real-life stories.”

Baker said Helms (“The Office,” “The Hangover”) and Park (“Fresh Off the Boat,” “Always Be My Maybe”) were very enthusiastic about creating a show that could serve as a positive, uplifting distraction during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has caused emotional, financial and physical strife for so many families across the nation.

“There’s tons of different stories we’re looking for here — they could range from a holiday disaster, to a work horror story, to a lie gone too far,” Baker said. “I would absolutely love for someone from Owensboro to be featured on the show.”

Casting will take place through the end of September, but Baker said the sooner applications are sent in, the better. Those interested in sharing their stories, either handwritten or by video, can apply here. “True Story” will be shot in Los Angeles from October-November, and those who are cast will be flown out to California with all accommodations provided.
