After a successful Fourth of July celebration throughout town, officials think a city-wide show could be something to look into for the future.

“The celebration along the riverfront was a huge success just like it’s been in years past,” Director of Public Events for the City of Owensboro Tim Ross said.

Ross said the downtown show had upwards of 10,000 people either in the streets or on the river enjoying the show.

This was the second year of having simultaneous firework shows from multiple locations in Owensboro. Throughout town, Ross said they have heard great responses from the community for the other three locations.

“It’s certainly something that we will look at in the future,” Ross said.

The city launched fireworks from several sites last year for the first time due to crowd limits. After positive responses, they carried the multi-site idea forward in addition to bringing the main show back to the river.

In addition to Smothers Park, fireworks were launched from Centre Court/Shifley Park, Owensboro Sportscenter/Moreland Park, and Owensboro Warehouse Leasing/former GE plant.
