Construction at Owensboro Racing and Gaming – owned by Churchill Downs – is progressing as scheduled. General manager Steve Roof said the venue is still expected to open in mid-quarter 1 of 2025.
“Many people in the community tell me they drive by the facility regularly and can see significant progress,” Roof said.
Though a specific opening date has not yet been announced, Roof said they will provide updates as the opening approaches. He encouraged community members to check the facility’s social media platforms and website for the latest news.
When completed, the venue will feature 600 Historical Racing Machines, a Center Bar, a sportsbook, parimutuel wagering, and various classic food options. Roof said the Churchill team looks forward to “providing the community with a premier entertainment venue while creating 200 jobs.”
“We are excited to continue building a great team and provide employment opportunities for 200 team members,” Roof said. “We have enjoyed getting involved with people in our community and are excited to continue expanding our reach as ambassadors of this community.”
In addition to the jobs the facility will provide, Roof emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. Owensboro Racing and Gaming has partnered with organizations like United Way, The Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club, Beverly’s Hearty Slice, and Kentucky Wesleyan College. It plans to expand those partnerships as part of its mission.
The venue will also hold two job fairs on Nov. 26 and Dec. 17 at the Hampton Inn and Suites. He said they will schedule additional fairs soon and encouraged those interested in applying to visit www.owensborogaming.com for more information.
Roof said the Owensboro Racing and Gaming team will continue to be visible in the community, participating in several upcoming events. They will be at the Pumpkin and Pickle Festival and the Boys and Girls Club Chef’s Giving events on Oct. 19-20.
Additionally, Owensboro Racing and Gaming will be the presenting sponsor of the PBR Rodeo on Oct. 26 at the Sportscenter, where people can register for player card signups and apply for jobs.
“Please keep an eye on our social media accounts for details regarding job fairs and other activities where Owensboro Racing and Gaming will participate,” Roof said.
