Salute the Arts, an event for local artists and crafters, will be at Smothers Park Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. Along with local artists and crafters, food and ride-on electronic animals will be available. Live on the River will also have music throughout the event.

“Ky Arts Fest is a 100 percent handmade-only event company,” Ky Arts Fest owner Alysin Montgomery said. “We want to focus on the true artists whose art makes Kentucky so special.”

Montgomery makes jewelry and began the events to focus on arts and crafts around Kentucky. She has hosted events in Louisville, Danville, Frankfort and Richmond, and tries to host nine per year. This is the first year in Owensboro, and she feels “blessed” to be hosting one here.

“I love to travel because every event I do in a new city, I always see something I have never seen before. It’s always a great experience,” Montgomery said.

Woodworkers, glass blowers, potters, jewelry makers, knitters and painters are all welcome to showcase their creative talents.

Local vendor Glass Fusion, who specializes in fused glass art will have glass jewelry, spoon rests made from repurposed bottles, candle holders and planters available Saturday.

“I have been working with glass for about a year and a half,” Glass Fusion owner Chad Christian said. “It is such a fun pastime that has turned into a small business for handmade craft shows. I am excited to be a part of each show and always looking for new ideas for fused glass projects.”

French Ridge Pottery, the Opal Gypsy and Jewelry and gifts by Sondra will have one-of-a-kind jewelry and pottery for sale.

Mixed media, including metals and cut and polished natural stones, are used by some of the vendors and handmade woodwork, wreaths and home decor will also be seen, including holiday and seasonal decor.
