Beginners interested in printmaking and paper collage have a chance to attend a series of art workshops in June. The workshops are for anyone ages 15 and up.

The supplies for each workshop are included in the $93.50 fee. Workshops will be held at Owensboro Community & Technical College’s Downtown Campus, located at 1501 Frederica Street.

The first workshop series, “Printmaking for Beginners,” will be taught by John Schartung and will take place June 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily. This workshop is an introduction to relief printmaking. Students will learn how to print cards for all occasions and edition prints, with techniques that can be used at home. Schartung is completing work on his master’s in fine art degree in painting from the Vermont College of Fine Art.

The second workshop series, “Paper Collage for Beginners,” will be taught by Lou O’Leary and will take place in form June 20-22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. This workshop is an introduction to the low-cost art of paper collage. Students will explore a variety of techniques and formats, and may create images such as postcard designs, collage illustrations, or larger fine art collages. O’Leary holds a master’s in fine art in painting and photography from the University of Alabama.

Interested participants may register online here; select “Community Art Workshops” and choose the appropriate workshop. To learn more, contact Dave Wilson at [email protected] or 270-686-4626.
