The 7th annual Legends Spooky Trail Race, limited to only 200 participants, will be held at Rudy Mines, Sunday at 3 p.m. Traveling on a four-mile course through the Ben Hawes trail system, the top ten winners will receive a pickaxe. The social media savvy have already dubbed this race the #raceforthepickaxe.

This year, the golden pickaxe will have a rustic wood-burned handle that has been custom decorated for each of the top 10 male and female overall finishers by local artist Jen Kramer, according to Legends.

Race director Dylan Hammons said there are currently a little over 100 participants signed up for the trail race that he said offers a little something for every level of runner.

“My passion project is running trails,” Hammons said. “These trails are challenging enough to bring good trail runners in and short enough to introduce new trail runners to the trails for the first time.”

Brooks Running will be on site with demo trail shoes. After the run, there will be music, a costume contest with prizes and a cookout.

All participants will receive a Spooky Trail t-shirt and a custom cut wood finisher medal.

“We help a lot of people with events,” Hammons said. “But, for Legends, it’s really the only event we put on.”
