The Junior League of Owensboro (JLO) will celebrate their 53rd Charity Ball on Saturday, Feb. 16. “Under the Big Top,” the vintage circus theme selected by chairwoman Tara Thompson, is reminiscent of a previous circus theme from a ball hosted by the League in the early 1990s. This year’s event will feature an assortment of flavorful popcorns, a plated meal, signature drinks and many games and surprises.

An annual tradition, Junior League of Owensboro’s Charity Ball showcases the League’s dedication to empowering women, families and the community through hard work, dedication and good stewardship.

Under the Big Top will also feature this year’s Junior Hostesses and Hosts who are teenagers of women who have served in JLO. Four young ladies and nine young men will be recognized at this year’s ball.

Each Junior Host group provides community service determined by their interests. Christmas Wish benefited directly from their voluntarism – providing an enjoyable Christmas for six local families. They also helped at the Owensboro Health Healthpark’s “Run for Your Life” 5K and participated in the Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade.

The annual Charity Ball serves as the Junior League of Owensboro’s primary fundraiser. Proceeds from the ball go directly back into the greater Owensboro area through scholarships, backpacks filled with food for a weekend to serve children in need, Christmas parties for Girl’s Inc. and becoming fairy Godmothers for Cinderella’s Closet. JLO also provides a $10,000 empowerment grant to a lucky non-profit organization.

“This will be such an exciting evening,” Thompson said. “I am proud to spotlight all of the contributions JLO has made in this community and welcome anyone who wants to join us Under the Big Top!”
