The Edge Ice Center will host over 60 skaters this weekend, for the 8th annual Living on the Edge Invitational, an ISI Team Figure Skating Competition. Skaters ranging from Tots level to Freestyle level will perform solo skates as well as pairs and group performances.

The twenty Owensboro Figure Skating Club skaters have had months of practice at the Edge Ice Rink and are excited about the Invitational being held in their hometown.

“Our skaters are on the ice 3-4 times a week, preparing for the competition,” said Jessica Weafer, coach of the Owensboro Figure Skating Club. “They are working hard.”

Each skater in the competition is a representative of a team and will earn team points according to placement. Individual placement winners in each event will receive medals. Team trophies will be presented for 1st through 3rd place teams.

The competition will begin Friday at 7 p.m. with the solo competitors. A full list of participants and skate times are listed here.

The Edge will be closed for public skate sessions Friday and Saturday, but will reopen on Sunday for public skating from 1 to 4 p.m.

Admission is free to attend the competition and the public is invited to attend with their families, Weafer said.

“I hope someone in the crowd loves what they see and joins us on the ice for our Learn to Skate program,” Weafer said. “Who knows. They could be in the competition next year.”
