Though the International Bar-B-Q has come and gone, it is just the start of Owensboro’s barbecue season. Summer around Daviess County has become known for a series of picnics hosted by parishes across the Diocese of Owensboro region.
Starting Saturday and running through the end of September, the area’s Catholic churches celebrate a rich tradition while raising a bit of money, too. Picnic menu items range from chicken to pork to mutton to burgoo, with each parish offering their own recipes. Anyone hungry for some home cooked food is welcome to attend and most of the 32 picnics are within Daviess County.
