During the warmer months, several opportunities arise to support local charities and organizations through races and walks for a cause. This year, The Epilepsy Foundation invites community members to walk in support of the more than 153,000 children, adults and veterans living with epilepsy in Southern Indiana and Kentucky.

According to their website, The Epilepsy Foundation funds educational trainings, monthly support groups and The Operation Outreach program, which provides advocacy and support services for Veterans affected by post-traumatic epilepsy.

“Advocacy for our clients is at the heart of our staff. Whether it’s medical, educational or occupational, we advocate for the individual’s needs and rights that come into question,” the website reads.

In addition to their other services, they offer a youth support and activity group that meets monthly through the support of Kosair charities. Those newly diagnosed with epilepsy may receive social service assistance program aide as well.

The Dare to Defeat Epilepsy walk will take place on June 1 at the Legion Park east shelter. Participants will need to check in by 9 a.m. Each walker or virtual walker is required to raise or donate a minimum of $25 to participate. To register online or to donate, visit efky.org/walk.
