Unrelenting rain forced the cancellation of The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s 10th annual Dazzling Daylily Festival this weekend.

Saturday’s festivities were supposed to include hot air balloon rides and circus performers, all set among the many flowers blooming in the garden. However, the weather would not cooperate.

“It’s absolutely too wet to bring any vehicles in the garden or set anything up,” WKBG board member Bill Tyler said.

Tyler said the garden won’t be rescheduling the hot air balloons or performers, calling them a “one time opportunity.”

The Dogs By The Daylilies event, which was rained out Friday, and Sunday’s car show will be rescheduled. The rest of the week’s activities will continue as planned, weather permitting.

While the festival activities were canceled Saturday, the garden was busy.

“We’ve had a lot of visitors come and walk the garden and a lot of flower sales,” Tyler said.

The daylilies will be in bloom through mid-July, giving people a few more weeks to come and enjoy them. They’ll also be for sale as long as they’re blooming.
