Musick Studios is continuing their dance program, “Nightmare on Frederica Street,” for the third year at Theatre Workshop of Owensboro’s Empress Theatre.

The first year’s program had three children, Michael, Alex and Julie, venture into an abandoned house on Frederica Street. They never came out. The second year’s program, set in a library, answered some questions from the year before.

This year’s program, “Resurrection,” continues the story from the two previous programs and is set in a graveyard behind an old mansion on Frederica Street, according to Musick Studios’ owner LeeAnn Musick.

The story focuses on the graveyard’s powers and the reading of inscriptions on the headstones of a burial ground rumored to be Native American.

Musick said that the program has frightful elements along with funny, but that since the theme is Halloween, there is darkness and doom in the show.

Over 120 dancers will perform in “Resurrection” and all are dressed age-appropriate for a Halloween production in terms of scariness and gore.

“Resurrection” Director Jayrolyn Oliver and a studio parent write the story for the “Nightmare on Frederica” series and said they use this annual program to showcase their dancers’ talents and abilities while providing the opportunity to perform.

“We like to be different and we want to have all realms,” Musick said.

With five choreographers working to create the numbers for the show, including lyrical, hip hop and tap, attendees will see many personalities onstage.

“It’s one of my favorite to be a character and release a different personality,” said Musick.

“Resurrection” will be performed at the Empress Theatre, 418 Frederica Street, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. The Friday show is sold out.

General admission tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for children. Tickets can be purchased online, calling 270-683-5333 or at Musick Studios, located at 411 E. 2nd St.
