The Kentucky Youth Chorale will host a salute to veterans on Nov. 2, an event that serves as a fundraiser for the organization.

According to KYC officials, donations received at “Red, White and Blue Jeans” make it possible for the choir to continue veteran service projects like the Honor Flight program, while teaching local children about sacrifice and service.

Funds from the evening will also help provide scholarship help to singers to travel for performances. Most recently, the group traveled to Europe where they sang at Canterbury Cathedral in England and Notre Dame Cathedral in France. KYC has also performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.

Since 2008 the nonprofit, the Institute for Young Musicians has sponsored the Kentucky Youth Chorale. Students from all area schools and home schools audition for this select group, ages 8-16. The choir performs locally for many service clubs and grand openings, Holiday Stroll and lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Owensboro.

The event, held at the Hines Center, will feature live bluegrass music, a silent auction, food catered by the Miller House and cash bar.

The event is from 6:30 – 10 p.m. at the Hines Center, which is located at 1 Wellness Place in Philpot. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. Veterans are free.
