The 2020 Wendell Foster Half Marathon presented by Owensboro Health has been converted to a virtual race, as announced on the event Facebook page Monday. The race was scheduled for Nov. 14.

With the virtual format, participants will be able to run the 13.1-mile distance on any course, whenever they wish. Results will not be recorded for the virtual event.

The full announcement from the Wendell Foster Half Marathon Committee addresses other questions and concerns reads in full:

At Wendell Foster, a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency, we’re thankful that you believe in our mission of empowering people with disabilities to realize their dreams and potential. The future remains uncertain for COVID-19. We place the safety of whom we support, the safety of our employees, the safety of our volunteers, and your safety at our forefront. With following local and state guidelines, along with working closely with city officials, local authorities, medical providers, volunteers, and community partners, we have made the difficult decision to convert the 2020 Wendell Foster Half Marathon presented by Owensboro Health to a virtual race.

So what happens now? With the virtual format, you’ll be able to run the 13.1-mile distance on any course, whenever you wish. All registrants will be mailed their race packets, which will include: huge finisher medal, technical shirt, run hat, gear bag, and 13.1 vehicle sticker. Results will not be recorded for the virtual event. No further action is required from registered participants. Please allow 60 days for your race packet to arrive (Wednesday, September 30, 2020). For those that have not registered, registration will close for our virtual race on Friday, August 21, 2020, at 11:59 pm, CST.

Please refer to your registration receipt. If your address has changed since registering, please contact us by August 21, 2020, to change your address.

We understand your disappointment and we feel the same way. Like you, we have been training, planning, and preparing for the second year of our half marathon. We will miss seeing the estimated three thousand runners and participants gathered to support our organization.

Thank you for supporting Wendell Foster during these difficult times. We are looking forward to getting through this season and seeing you on Saturday, November 13, 2021, for the third annual Wendell Foster Half Marathon!

Truly thankful,
The Wendell Foster Half Marathon Committee
