The annual event event held to meet political candidates running for local and state offices will not be held in person this year, according to host Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.

“Due to the rising COVID-19 case numbers in our community and Commonwealth, Red, White and Blue will not be held in person on Thursday, October 29. Stay tuned for more information as we retool this resource,” a release from the Chamber reads.

“Thank you to our Red, White and Blue Sponsor, Big Rivers Electric Corporation, for their commitment to the advocacy efforts of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. Reminding our community of the importance of voting is a key component of our advocacy efforts and we are committed to continuing to provide resources for our local voters.

The free event was set to take place at 4:30 p.m. Thursday on the Daviess County Courthouse lawn.

According to the Chamber, all Greater Owensboro candidates on the ballot in contested races were set to “deliver old-style political stump speeches to a crowd.”

Candidates in the following races had been invited: Owensboro City Commission; Owensboro Mayor; Kentucky District Judge; Kentucky House of Representative Districts 11, 12, 13; United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

Social distancing measures had been put in place.

As of Thursday’s report by the Green River District Health Department, there had been 1,820 reported cases of COVID-19 in Daviess County, along with 128 hospitalizations and 28 coronavirus-related deaths. There have been 1,612 recoveries, and 12 people are currently hospitalized.
