Fans vote for their favorite band to perform at Hall of Fame’s signature event
ROMP Festival has launched a Virtual Band Contest, creating an opportunity for emerging artists to play both the ROMP main stage and the Jagoe Homes After Party stage in 2021.
The year’s ROMP Festival was postponed indefinitely in April due to the coronavirus, but the event was officially delayed until next year in June. The event will return June 23-26, 2021.
Produced by the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum, ROMP Festival has partnered with Owensboro-based Jagoe Homes to design the Virtual Band Contest ahead of next year’s event.
The contest is open to all bands that play bluegrass or acoustic roots music. Bands wanting to enter the contest can submit a video, along with a band photo and bio, on the ROMP Festival website.

The deadline for entering is Jan. 31, but the number of participating bands will be capped. Therefore, festival organizers suggest entering as soon as possible.
Once all the band contest submittals are complete, fans view videos on the ROMP website, voting for their favorite bands and casting up to one vote per day until the contest ends.
The band receiving the most votes at the end of the contest will play both the ROMP main stage and the Jagoe Homes After Party stage in 2021.
“ROMP is known for presenting a diverse lineup each year to include Hall of Fame members, fan favorites, and emerging artists,” said Chris Joslin, executive director of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum and ROMP Festival. “The ROMP Virtual Band Contest presented by Jagoe Homes is a great way to introduce new bands to our audience while also creating opportunities for the next generation of bluegrass artists. Jagoe Homes presents a great lineup on the After Party stage each year at ROMP, so it’s exciting to work with them on this new project.”
The ROMP Virtual Band Contest presented by Jagoe Homes consists of two phases:
- Phase I: 12/03/20 – 01/31/21 — Bands submit their video entry
- Phase II: 02/03/21 – 03/14/21 — Voting is open to ROMP fans
The winner will be announced March 17.
“Engaging directly with the music creates a unique experience, and that’s where we do our best work as an organization, both with ROMP and the Hall of Fame,” Joslin said. “Last year we hosted people from over 40 states and six countries, and now these fans have a new way to get involved to build excitement for ROMP 2021.”
